Denver, CO. (May 6, 2022)

ANB Bank is proud to announce the induction of Don Sturm, Chairman of ANB Bank, to the Colorado Business Hall of Fame on May 3rd  in a ceremony hosted by Junior Achievement Rocky Mountain and the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce. He was nominated for his business acumen and community involvement.

During his acceptance speech, directed mainly to the younger people in the audience, Don said, “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity,” quoting Roman philosopher Seneca.

Originally from New York, Donald L. Sturm and his family currently own ANB Bank with branches in Colorado and Wyoming, as well as numerous real estate assets in Colorado.

Mr. Sturm worked for the Internal Revenue Service as a trial attorney for four years before joining Peter Kiewit Sons’ Inc. as tax counsel in 1963. In 1970, he was elected vice president and shortly thereafter was appointed to the position of chief financial officer. In 1975, Mr. Sturm was elected to the board of directors of Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc. He directed notable acquisitions including Mapco, Inc. and The Continental Group, and in 1986, Mr. Sturm was named vice chairman of Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc. Mr. Sturm left Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc., in December 1991 to pursue his own financial interests.

Mr. Sturm also was a member of the group that bought Continental Airlines out of bankruptcy in April 1993.  The airline was restructured and is now part of United Airlines.  He served on the airline’s Board of Directors from April 1993 to September 2003.

Across the ANB Bank footprint, the bank has 29 banking centers serving customers throughout Colorado and Wyoming. Its parent company is Sturm Financial Group, Inc., headquartered in Denver, Colorado. ANB Bank has financial strength embodied in over $3.3 billion in assets, and is a true community bank with an unwavering commitment to excellence. The bank helps each of its communities prosper through investment, sponsorship, philanthropy, and employee volunteerism. It is the passion ANB Bank has for banking that makes the difference.

Don and his wife Susan, primarily through the Sturm Family Foundation, have participated in philanthropic activities by providing funds and oversight for charter schools to benefit economically disadvantaged children. The foundation also provides support for higher education, affordable housing, the University of Denver, Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, National Jewish Health and numerous other charities.  Don is a former trustee of the University of Denver, now recognized as an Honorary Life Trustee, and two facilities on the campus bear the family name.  Don is also on an Advisory Committee of Johns Hopkins Hospital Brady Institute.
